CALL FOR APPLICATIONS THE BLACK SEA LINK FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM ACADEMIC YEAR 2011-2012

2010-09-06

New Europe College is a private independent Institute for Advanced Study with international reputation, located in Bucharest, Romania. NEC invites outstanding younger scholars in the humanities and social sciences for research stays (Fellowships) in residence. Each year, following a rigorous selection process, the invited Fellows meet in a varied and stimulating group, to work on projects of their individual choice. The Institute strives to provide optimal support, materially as well as intellectually, and to offer adequate working and living conditions to its Fellows. Fellows also have the opportunity to profit from NEC's widespread international networks and its high-quality guest lecturers program.
The Black Sea Link Fellowship Program, sponsored by the VolkswagenStiftung (Hannover, Germany), targets talented young researchers from Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as from other countries around the Black Sea. The grants allow fellows to work on projects of their choice while in residence in Bucharest. NEC welcomes a wide variety of disciplines in the fields of the humanities and social sciences.
Conditions: Applicants must be doctoral students, or hold a Ph.D. title. Preference will be given to candidates below the age of 40.
Duration of the Fellowship: one term (5 months), from October 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012, or from March 1 to July 31, 2012; or a full academic year (10 months) from October 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012.
Location: New Europe College-Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest.
The Fellowship consists of: a monthly stipend of 650 € (tax free), accommodation, international transportation to and from the home country of the Fellows at the beginning and the end of the Fellowship. Fellows are offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice (2,600 € for transportation, accommodation, and per diem). In addition, fellows can order literature for up to 500 €, to be used for their research during the Fellowship, and included, at its end, in the library of their home institution.
NEC will assist Fellows in all practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Bucharest. The Black Sea Link Fellows will be included in the larger group of colleagues from Romania and other countries, meeting for a weekly seminar at the NEC. They are also expected to take part in other scientific events organized by the New Europe College (seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures held by foreign scholars, symposia, etc.).
The results of the Fellows' research shall be summarized in a paper (in English, French, or German), to be published by the New Europe College after the end of the Fellowship.
